At the start of the event I asked people to raise their hands if they had used ChatGPT.
Unsurprisingly, many people had.
It is, after all, the fastest growing product in history, going from 0 to 100 million users in the space of two months.
We split this event into two parts: in the first part we talked about the opportunities and dangers of artificial intelligence, and in the second we talked about how to use AI for improving your English.
For each part, we split into small groups of 3 people, so that everyone had plenty of time to practise speaking and engage with other people.
As you would expect when you bring a group of people from a wide range of countries and backgrounds together, there were many amazing perspectives, tips and tricks that were shared.
Some people were firmly on the side of AI being a force for good, while others were concerned about regulation and privacy.
As far as AI and language learning goes, I explained the three different "areas" where AI can help language learners: immediate problem solving, linguistic learning and coaching. We also talked specifically about use cases in each of these categories, and there were some wonderful use cases and tips shared by members of the community.
It seems as if people enjoyed this one, so keep a lookout for more similar events!
